Walking softly on the earth

Lament for the ash

I have been reading how indigenous peoples of the world hold a wisdom that we have lost in the colonialist west. There has been a growing movement of people and thinkers that are now looking to that earth wisdom. I believe that we still hold that wisdom too, if we dig deep enough to realise it.

There is kick back from the rationalists, who want everything weighed and measured, numbered and categorised, because it gives the rationalist mind a sense of control and progression as though they are the most important of human attributes.

I now walk this post industrial landscape with a different mindset, and this has brought me so much joy. I read this the other day :

' My mother.....taught me and my brothers to walk with our hearts high and to walk softly on the earth because earth is our mother. As we walked, she said, we should be ready to enter into every movement of beauty we encountered .'
